I went along to the FA Youth Cup game at Kingsmeadow last night to check out the up and coming Dons talent – and there are some real prospects there. A comfortable 3-0 win which could have been more comfortable were it not for some great saves by the Bristol Rovers keeper.

Pick of the bunch on show was Jayden Antwi up front, Azeez like in his…[Read more]

Doesn’t sound like it was much of a game on Tuesday, but a point away at a local rival is not to be sneezed at. Shame about the cards for Barry and Meades, though.
We had our annual WDSA get-together in Adelaide last night, as we always do on the eve of the Test match here and Robert is in town. Really made me think about the huge progess the club…[Read more]

You would not believe that I was sober when I wrote that last post. So many typos!

After the Lord Mayor’s Show? Well not quite, but last night’s game was a bit of a stinker. The positives are an away point and a clean sheet. The negatives, both full suspended backs for the Fleetwood game.

My abiding memories of the Millwall game was the excellent away support that silenced the home crowd for large periods of the game. Oh and…[Read more]

Some 0-0’s are exciting and belie their dull scoreline. Not this one. This was a classic 0-0 bore draw. I can’t recall any real heart in mouth moments, although young James Shea did make a couple of decent saves, living up to his ever more sure Mr Reliable role between the posts. The only real entertainment in this game was the antics of the…[Read more]

For 25 minutes, this was a fairly even contest – both the Dons and Bury probing and creating chances, but neither showing a killer instinct. And then, wow! Just wow. Three minutes of sheer ecstasy as the Dons went in to turbo drive, and the Bury defence capitulated in suicidal fashion. Delirium for us Dons, devastation for the travelling Bury…[Read more]

I suspected Wimbledon don’t do ruthless well….. after the 5-0 FA Cup replay rout and a change of manager that Bury would be tougher to beat in the Dons’ fourth meeting with them in a month. How delightfully wrong I was. 5-1 is ruthless and now the Dons are back in the playoff spots – sixth if you like! – in this remarkable first season in League…[Read more]

“OK lads. Forget about last Tuesday. It was a fluke score line. Today is a new start. It’s a clean slate. Let’s play like that cup loss didn’t happen.”

Whatever the pre match team talk in the Bury dressing room, it didn’t work. To be fair to Bury, just like last Tuesday, they started brightly. For 20 minutes they caused us issues.

    Then Poleon…[Read more]

After Tuesday night, the Bury players must surely be psychotically damaged – just like the Australian cricket team, ha ha 😀. So form suggests an easy win, especially with Tom Elliott likely to be back in the lineup. The Dons seem to be coping with injuries to players like Meades and Charles, with the encouraging signs that the youngsters coming…[Read more]

Agreed Colum, that was indeed as one sided a game as you’ll ever see. Bury were dreadful. Having said that, we were as good as I’ve seen us all season.

The stand out players for me were Taylor and Poleon, who as Colum said changed the game when he came on. Now Azeez is gone, the “on fire” song should surely be young Dom’s – except he already has…[Read more]

That has to go down as the most one sided game of football I’ve seen in ages. With the exception of some early doors pressure resulting in a good Shea save, Bury were woeful.

You could tell it wasn’t going to be their night when they had to make a tactical substitution after 35 minutes only to go 3-0 almost immediately afterwards. Then early in…[Read more]

Just about to leave for the latest round in the Bury rubber. If we play like we did on the away league fixture, we’ll be OK. If we play like we did in the first 45 of the cup leg, we won’t.

Perhaps the worrying signs are the number of niggling injuries that seem to be taking their toll recently. Shea and Meades have all missed games in…[Read more]

I’ve now seen Wimbledon 4 times in the last few weeks – Oxford, Bury twice and Oldham – and not seen them lose yet! Obviously the Oxford game was a rare event when you score 3 goals before half time away from home. Both Bury performances were solid and to fight back from 2 down was really impressive. The Oldham game was 2 points lost. Having…[Read more]

Back to league action and another trip to the northern wastelands. Not reading too much into the Mickey Mouse cup during the week. I feel reasonably confident about tonight’s game, as I always do when we are playing away. Assuming we have a fully fit squad to choose from, and both Elliott and Taylor up front, I would expect at least a point. Also…[Read more]

Another away draw if we manage to get through. But at least it will not be against a team in the League. And a chance it might be on telly for us Oz-based fans to watch.
The obvious danger is underestimating Bury in the replay but I reckon Ardley is now a good enough manager to prevent that.
In the meantime we have another trip to the northern…[Read more]

So we go again in 10 days. I have to admit to fearing the worst before the game, and definitely at half time. Whatever troubles Bury have on and off the pitch, a cup game is a great leveler. It is whichever team turns up on the day, and at 2-0 down you’ve have to admit that was Bury for 45 minutes. But credit to Neil and the team. We turned it…[Read more]
