And relax…
Yet another incredible match which we will be talking about for many years to come (especially if we get a plum tie in the 3rd round draw!).
I sat in the pub with a few Womble friends and the whole thing seemed to pass in a surreal blur. We’d barely ordered our first pint when we went a goal down, and the next 80 minutes passed…[Read more]

At 3-0 down the result was never in doubt 🙂

You know… for me, the game changer was Jake Reeves. Watching online there was a distinct and repeated shout from him to crowd the CA goalie as he set up for the corner that lead to the breakthrough. He did the same thing for the second.
I figure he had twigged during that 70th minute melee that the CA goalie was vulnerable when pressured. I…[Read more] -

Woeful for 70 minutes, superb for 20 minutes – we can all breathe a big sigh of relief. It has to go down as one of the greatest Dons comebacks, second only probably to the West Ham one all those years ago, and it does demonstrate that the Wimbledon never say die spirt lives on. When that goal line scramble some how didn’t go in for us in about…[Read more]

Too easy eh? Looked like amateur hour on a paddock. But job done. Curzon Who? Let’s hope for Manchester Utd next.

What exactly is a Curzon Ashton? A vintage car? I see they play in Ashton-Under-Lyne. So, what is a Lyne and why is Ashton under it? All of this adds up to a heap of rubbish from the lower leagues who are up against a decent football team this week. The Gaffer’s boys are too good to go down and should easily dispatch this bunch of ashton’s back…[Read more]

This tie reminds me of when I was 12 and the Dons were drawn away to Sutton United in the Cup. It was about the time I was getting into football properly and was probably my first away game. Despite being the “bigger” team, Wimbledon lost 3-1.
So hopefully Ardley has prepared the team mentally for tonight. He has virtually a full squad to choose…[Read more] -

As Wimbledon fans we have a long history of being the banana skin for bigger clubs. Tomorrow we are the foot trying to avoid the banana skin!
The management will have done everything in their power to keep the players focussed and to send them out on the pitch with the right attitude, but the FA Cup is an unpredictable beast. Villains can…[Read more]

Lyle Taylor’s back in contention for a place in the Cup tie. Whoopee! But was he ever injured? The cynical among us may just think he was being rested.

It’s an FA Cup tie Wimbledon are expected to win on Sunday at non-league Curzon Ashton – and that in itself is dangerous in a one-off game. The Dons are on a hiding to nothing in this one: win as expected or slip on a banana skin, lose and face the ignominy of going out to a side ranked well below you. Neal Ardley is saying all the right things…[Read more]

A friend of mine who knows the northern non-league scene very well is not impressed with Curzon Ashton. His view is that they are a workmanlike side, who were probably lucky to get promoted to Conference North. Their ground is relatively new and should be in decent condition, so no excuses there.
If we are determined and completely focussed…[Read more]

What should we expect of the Curzon Ashton game?
– They’re 16th in the Conference North.
– They’re in the same League as FC United of Manchester.
– They were knocked out of the FA Trophy on Monday by Worcester losing 2-1 at home.
– The FA Trophy game was postponed from Saturday because of a frozen pitch.
– All home seats are sold, but there are…[Read more] -

Just listened to the interview with Robbo on the Dons’ Player and I’d forgotten quite how many first team starters we had out yesterday. It isn’t surprising that we struggled without Fuller, Meades, Charles, Barcham and Taylor (and Elliott for the first 45 minutes) and it shows just how far we have come to expect a result without so many key…[Read more]

Good summaries by all. Just to add that to me it felt like a League 2 game from last season, against a combination of Mansfield and Wycombe! None of the guile or skill that we have been witnessing in League 1, just lots of energy and plenty of head tennis.
Sadly our much lauded triumvirate in central midfield: Bully, Jake and Deano, have one…[Read more]

Perhaps I was being a bit harsh on Poleon. But as a striker on the pitch tasked with scoring goals goals, despite all his commendable hard work, Dom by his high standards did have an off game in not converting two golden goalscoring opportunities. He’s buried those every time before. Mind you, he’a no doubt arguing still that he did score one!

It is interesting watching Barnett play. Not particularly pleasing, just interesting. Yesterday he had odd moments, totaling about one minute in all, when you said to yourself, “If only you did that all the time.” The trouble is, he doesn’t. He doesn’t seem to have the desire to do a Tom Elliott. To fight for the cause, or put his body on the…[Read more]

A point was probably as much as we deserved from our poor showing against Fleetwood, but it was still incredibly disappointing to throw away another two points with yet another stoppage time goal conceded. That’s the fourth league match in which we’ve done that (Rochdale, Coventry, Bradford and Fleetwood) costing us seven points, as well as the…[Read more]

A return to KM for our old foes from Fleetwood. We have met them in the Conference, League 2 and now both teams are just outside the playoff positions in League 1. The progress of both clubs has been similar, but there the similarity ends – the Wombles: fan owned, fan run and fan financed, Fleetwood: the plaything and possible tax efficient…[Read more]

Hi Singapore, thanks for the concise summary as ever. All that I would add is that I thought our keeper, Bursik, looked solid throughout, although with little to do. The one youngster who has frustrated me over the two Youth Cup games I have seen is Anthony Hartigan. Obviously a hero for getting a hat trick to bury the illegitimate Franchise…[Read more]
