Make no mistake, that “performance” at Bramall Lane was as abject and lacklustre as we’ve seen from the Dons all season. The worst by far. While Sheffield United were silky smooth in their passing, incisive in their attacks, passionate in their fight, we were the polar opposite. Clueless, slow, lethargic and quite frankly embarrassingly…[Read more]

I tweeted this….. first time I’ve seen the term ‘evisceration’ used in the AFC Wimbledon context for the 4-0 loss at Sheffield United. Sounded like a tough afternoon. Sure, we could have done better, but by the looks of it Sheffield United are certainly heading for the Championship given their form and resources. We are in a different league to…[Read more]

The match at Preston was the 5th time I have seen the U18s this season and unfortunately when the chips were down the boys did not perform. There were some bright spots and I thought that Jayden Antwi and Judah Chapman showed their potential, but on the whole I feel that the boys did not perform as they have been recently. Hopefully the video of…[Read more]

Listened to Rob Cornell’s call of the terrific AFC Wimbledon Under-18s last 16 FA Cup Youth tie at Preston North End. Newly-signed professional Anthony Hartigan put the young Dons ahead in first period of extra time 2-1 with a cracking volley before PNE got two late goals to snuff out the Dons’ challenge for a quarter-final spot. There is some…[Read more]

So Sutton march on. In hindsight it was a mistake of Leeds to field such a weakened side, especially on that excuse for a pitch. Surely the fact that they’ve now gone unbeaten against three league clubs on it can’t just be down to good management and players. Especially when compared to their home form.

    Bitter? Moi?

OK, seems like I am now able to post again! :o)

Went along to see the U18s play the Franchise in their final preparation match for the Youth Cup last 16 tie at Preston.

This set of boys are very impressive and the 4-0 victory probably flattered the Franchise, as the score could easily have been 6 or 7 we were so dominant.

    Wednesday will be a…[Read more]

Am I the only one who was just a bit surprised to see the Gills game called off more than 24 hours before KO. And to see the OS post accompanied by a picture of a Priestfield covered pitch. Sure we are suffering a real cold snap here, but during the day any frost is quickly melting.

Admittedly Kent can be fairly rural and frosts can be heavier in…[Read more]

I’ve just sent a piece to Rob for inclusion in the next WDSA on the Sutton games. Ironically for someone who doesn’t really get upset about defeats, this one REALLY hurt. The complete opposite of Singapore Don. Yes Sutton just about deserved the victory, but for me it was the manner of the victory that got under my skin.

    Yesterday’s point at…[Read more]

Even days later, I am still annoyed by the defeat by Sutton. Firstly for selfish reasons since we Wombles down under won’t get to see the Dons on TV. But more importantly, because the club will miss out on the income the televised game would have generated as we prepare for New Plough Lane.
There is always always criticism of the ref, but the l…[Read more]

I don’t really care about the Cup. It is solidifying our league position that is important and building a solid team that can withstand the pressure when even more of the club’s resources are dedicated to Plough Lane Mk2. The Big Time can wait until we are back in Merton and 100% secure. Tis merely survival up to this point. That said, one benefit…[Read more]

How weird to be the giant-killed, yet I actually don’t feel that bad about losing tonight’s game to Sutton – strange for me who takes defeat badly. But when Robinson was sent off in the 15th minute, the writing seemed to be on the wall. The thorough ineptitude of the referee really did spoil the game, Sutton getting away with blatant handballs…[Read more]

A curate’s egg of a performance from the team yesterday, although the good parts were very good indeed. Whether deliberate or not we seemed to give up the midfield very early in the game, as once again the 3 man midfield lost out against Oxford’s talented 4. However, despite being dominated in the middle third, we seemed to control both ends of…[Read more]

Two big games at Kingsmeadow in the next week, and both look like selling out.

Firstly, Oxford in the league and amazingly a chance to complete a double over our former jinx opponents. Of course ‘one swallow does not make a summer’ and Oxford will be formidable opponents. They are on a good run and are still involved in both the FA Cup and…[Read more]

Thanks, Pete, for the Youth Cup match report. A good way to cheer up Dons fans after the negativity surrounding the Sutton game.
I watched that game via an internet stream, and to say it was a poor game is an understatement. However the draw does mean we are still in the competition. Just hope the players and management can pull us out of the…[Read more]

Well done, Pete, a comprehensive and expressive report of a very enjoyable evening. The young lads are really doing the club proud as they march into the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup for the second consecutive season.

Sterner tests await, especially a potential trip to Goodison Park in the next round, but these kids look to be loving their…[Read more]

What a joy. As convincing a 3-0 win as you’ll see, with as polished a team performance as I’ve seen in a long, long time: the U-18s FA Youth Cup victory over Premier League Hull City was simply uplifting. The team purred as one, linking from back to front with pinpoint passes played along the ground; this was a class act. The scoreline could…[Read more]

I’ve kept my mouth shut for some time now about NA and his tactics, (hooray you say), but I cannot help think that it was his whole approach to the Sutton game that nearly cost us a chance to fight again. His pre-match interview and comments were highly cautious, even somewhat negative. I am sure it is that which filtered through to the players…[Read more]
