Anyone who has had the misfortune to have a dispute with our HMRC, knows it can be a very painful business. When the tax system is so darn complicated that even they don’t fully understand it, mistakes are bound to happen.
If this was the USA we’d have fired off a litigation case for a sullied reputation. As it is, we just publish a statement…[Read more]

Many thanks Windlesham, very kind. The years seem to flash by far too quickly now! An Ale FC Wimbledon beer glass was a particularly welcome present this year. I hope to toast many a victory with it next season 😃

Just popped in to wish Pete (aka Singapore Don) a happy birthday. I hope the blood pressure has returned to normal levels now that the season is complete! ;o)

So the initial release list has been published with few real surprises. Shea, Bulman, Robertson, plus the four youngsters who couldn’t cut it – Oakley, Beere, Gallagher and Fitzpatrick.
Also, strongly looks like Kelly and Elliott will be on their way, although we would like to keep them both.
Intriguing is the undisclosed ‘no future at this…[Read more]

UPDATE – Neal Ardley on Tuesday announced James Shea, Dannie Bulman, Sean Kelly, Chris Robertson, Tom Beere, David Fitzpatrick, George Oakley and Dan Gallagher have been released. Tom Elliott is considering the Dons new offer but has other offers and a “few other players have been told to move on because they do not have futures at this club”,…[Read more]

James Shea has said he is being released. By my count Shea kept 13 clean sheets when he played and stepped in at a time of great defensive uncertainty in mid-September. I can only think that in letting him go, Neal Ardley has someone else (and available) in mind. Some are suggesting Kelle Roos, who supplanted Shea during the second half of last…[Read more]

I can’t disagree with most of what has been said about the players to go and what should replace them. I’d love to see a passing style of football, but just can’t see it happen. For a start, the KM pitch isn’t good enough, and a direct approach is bound to win more points (if not plaudits) in the long run.

We need new right winger because I suspect Whelpdale won’t work out – on the field or in the gym!!

“But near the top of our shopping list this summer must be a fast, attacking right winger. It’s an absolute must.”
Singapore – How can you say that with a fully fit and ‘summer refreshed’ Whelps waiting in the wings?!
;o)

PS Two omissions from my player review, both in midfield: Beere and Whelpdale. Beere has clearly dropped down the pecking order and probably out of the equation now. It would seem Egan has replaced him, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Beere go. What about the mysterious Whelpdale. Like Barnett, apparently on a two year contract, we could be…[Read more]

And so it ends, comfortably mid table – I suppose I should be happy that my prediction of 15th was spot on! But to be honest the overarching emotion right now is one of disappointment: the lacklustre nature of our end of season run-in has been really frustrating. It’s been a real damp squib. Yes our final Oldham game did give us some excitement -…[Read more]

An enjoyable last day of the season at Kingsmeadow yesterday. The early start felt quite odd, but a bunch of us forced a beer down before the match! This was after my normal purchase of golden goals tickets from Roger Dennis – I laughingly asked if I could buy the 0-0 ticket in advance, but Mr Dennis declined…
The match itself was a very…[Read more]

The Dons can’t finish lower than 15th. They could yet finish the season as high as 12th, but that’s unlikely. While most of us would have taken 15th place at the start of the season, it’s the cold statistic of just 2 wins in the last 10 games and without a goal in 8 of them, that sours it a bit for me. I get the distinct impression that the…[Read more]

There have been some detailed reviews players over the last few weeks. Reading between the lines, it sounds as thought that most of them are fairly average. Six games since a goal, only scored twice in the last ten games, only won five in the last twenty games. Not much entertainment for the fans. Let us hope the management team can reverse this…[Read more]

As we limp towards the finish line of our first season in League 1, all of the talk this week has surrounded the possible departure of Tom Elliott.
No news has been released by the club, of course, but reading between the lines I feel that his departure at the end of the season is likely.
If he leaves then I will wish him well, but I will also…[Read more]

I won’t disagree with a lot of Windlesham’s coach friend says. Some of the criticism seems a bit harsh, but his comments have to be taken with his background as context.
What I will say is that I don’t expect a lot of personnel changes in the close season. Young fringe players like Tom Beere may be off. I’d like to say the same of Barnett and…[Read more]

Safe travels back to Oz Liam. It was great to watch the Rochdale game with you – at least we got to see some goals that night! I don’t think we’ve seen a Dons goal
at our JG Stand end in 2017 though 😟 As you and others have said, it’s no been a bad season – mid table security in League One in our first season is not to be sniffed at. It would be…[Read more] -

Today is my last day in the UK. I should apologise for not posting more, but in my defence, there has not been much to talk about since that joyous, momentous night back in mid-March. Others have described how disappointing the season has finished, but as Windlesham has said, a mid-table finish with safety assured by Easter was probably a lot more…[Read more]
