Apologies for clogging up the forum, but I thought the following may be of interest to some. I sent my assessment of next season’s squad and tactics to a fellow Womble for comment. He is a UEFA qualified coach who goes to most matches – here is his assessment (apologies in advance for any formatting issues due to the cut and paste):

    AFC…[Read more]

All a bit ‘down’ in here at the moment and IMO without much cause. Yes, the season has petered out which is a little disappointing. Yes, NA hasn’t given as many minutes to the youngsters as some of us would have hoped.

But to repeat the much used cliché, if offered a mid-table finish at the start of the season 90% of our fans (with me most…[Read more]

“A harder challenge awaits us next season…” Never a truer word said than these by Colum (IMHO).
After recent efforts and my intense frustration with the lack of game time for the rising stars… especially since most of the rest of the squad has already gone on holiday, means that I didn’t even bother to try and make today’s game on air….…[Read more]

What a utter waste of time. I wish sides with nothing to play for could just agree to take a point each, so that we could all do something better with our time.

The bright spark today was young Toby Sibbick. He had an excellent game in defence, and even had a couple of half chances going forward late on. It is easy to see why Premiership clubs…[Read more]

I haven’t posted match reports after recent matches because they have been inestimably drab affairs not worth the time and effort to dissect and analyse. Today’s dullfest against Peterborough makes it six games out of seven that we’ve failed to score, and therein lies our biggest problem: a lack of confidence and killer instinct in front of goal.…[Read more]

As boring end of season mid-table kickabouts go, today is relatively important insofar as 3 points would take us above opponents Posh and more than likely above the Franchise and into 11th place.

I hope that NA plays a strong starting XI, introducing any youngsters only for the last 15-20 minutes.

I’d like to see Elliott start, as well as…[Read more]

Very interesting. But alas personally I cannot chip-in with any informed views, seeing so little of the action and not the live games (or the players off the ball). In fact there is so little sport here that one has to wonder if this is some Asian conspiracy. All I can pick up is that there is a general air of being resigned to us not having the…[Read more]

    Thanks Windlesham for those thoughts…

I am a little uncertain about the Club futures of Tom Elliott and Jake Reeves, given their standout seasons for the Dons. While agreeing there needs to be some squad bolstering, it is also most important that we try (if we can) to hold on to both these two going into next season, but I am also mindful that…[Read more]

Here’s some further musings on the club’s strategy, if (as me and Devon believe) the finances are going to be tight for the next few seasons.

Looking at the core of our squad, the strong areas seem to me to be centre back and centre midfield. At centre back we need to pray that Will now remains injury free. If he does then I see us playing 3…[Read more]

I think you are spot on with your view that NPL is costing more than expected (although I wince at the thought of 2x building costs and fear for the consequences if you turn out to be correct).

There have been several warnings regarding the budget available for NA during the close season and this can only be due to having to put aside more for…[Read more]

This is always such a good forum for informed views. I sometimes wish I had some of my own to contribute!
However, having already said my piece on who I think goes and who we should keep, I’d just like to add that on reading Erik’s report about NPL progress, and knowing quite a bit about the planning process and the construction industry; it…[Read more]

Just finished reading the latest edition of the WDSA Newsletter. Particularly enjoyed Singapore’s emotion filled rendering of the recent ‘Franchise bashing’ evening – for those of us who had stupidly booked a holiday before the fixtures were announced and found ourselves at the other end of the world as the match took place, it painted a vivid…[Read more]

An odd game yesterday, with it all done and dusted within 11 seconds of kick off. Without Tom Elliott up front we looked toothless, with Poleon once again lacking his early season spark. In midfield Bully and Reeves were as busy as ever, but Meades has had better games and the bumpy pitch made it difficult for the lightweight Egan to show his…[Read more]

I liked your editorial Rob. Has the Gaffer got the will to resist the offers that are going to be coming his way? The stadium looks to be years off. Surely the odds of him lasting the course are too long. He would probably be the longest serving manager in the entire country if he made the first game at the New Plough Lane given Wenger is on his…[Read more]

My summary of the Rochdale game? How the hell did we win that 3-1?

For the first 25 minutes we were chasing shadows as Rochdale got the ball wide and delivered cross after cross across our six yard box. Only a combination of poor finishing and a good luck stopped them scoring.

Then all of a sudden that their weak link was doing the same to them.…[Read more]

The Dons crashed through 54 points with victory over Rochdale, given the safety level in 12 L1 seasons is between 50-51 points, we can safely assume that AFC Wimbledon have secured League 1 football for next season — and with six games to spare. That is a wonderful achievement from Neal Ardley, his coaching staff and squad on one of L1’s lowest…[Read more]

Well… trust me to have to work on the day we probably ensured our League One survival and with the sort of typical crazy five minutes of football we seem to have a flair for producing (on occasion).
I say “probably ensured” because of course it’s still technically possible for us to get relegated. However, looking back on the last twenty years…[Read more]

Another difficult game tonight against opposition who are in the last chance saloon for making a move into the playoffs. Rochdale play an attractive passing game, but if they try to knock it around on our cabbage patch then we should be able to pick them off (if we play a high pressing game).

Another performance like Saturday will not be…[Read more]

I was at the game yesterday (unfortunately). Opinion seems divided – were we rubbish for the whole game or only in the second half? I’m afraid I am in the former camp. Had lots of possession in the first half but absolutely no cutting edge. Apart from a very short spell in the second half just before they got the second goal, we were awful. It was…[Read more]
