So it’s game on for the second leg. Beast changed the game on Saturday but suspect Taylor and Elliott will start again with the option of bringing Bayo on later. Very evenly poised. A 1-0 lead means it is a 50/50 game tonight. Their confidence must be a bit shot, especially after conceding a late goal. Lots of Dons fans making a tough journey so…[Read more]

Don’t prevaricate!
On the day we knew we’d get Accy in the playoffs, I looked at the logistics of getting there and staying overnight. The result was a return train ticket for ÂŁ55 and a hotel a mile from the ground for around ÂŁ55. Not bad.
I got home after the first leg and checked again. Train ticket up to ÂŁ150 and the nearest hotel 6-7 mi…[Read more]

Pompey are out, so it is Plymouth at Wembley if we hold onto our slender lead on Wednesday.

A magnificent evening all round – besides the on field performance, which hopefully you all got to witness wherever in the globe you were located, the bars did a roaring trade from 2 hours before kick off until long into the night. The ground was rammed with (by my reckoning) a record crowd inside the ground and the atmosphere was up there with…[Read more]

What a thrill to watch home-grown Tom Beere slam home the winner at the second attempt deep in stoppage time to give the Dons a 1-0 advantage to take to Accrington this week. On the run of play I thought Accy were more composed and threatening than the Dons, until the final stages when the introduction of Bayo Akinfenwa turned things for…[Read more]

Right. Where’s Accrington. 🙂

It’s a good job Neil Ardley and the team are relaxed about the Accrington game, because I’m as nervous as hell. I wasn’t this nervous before the FA Cup final, the Conference Play Off final, or even last ditch game against survival against Fleetwood three years ago. I’ve had butterflies for three days now.
Why? I don’t know. Maybe it is all the…[Read more]

So here we go into our bonus fixtures! The atmosphere at KM tonight should be good, with plenty of time for liquid refreshment before kick off!
I hope all antipodean Wombles have access to the Sky Sports coverage – but don’t expect a free-flowing match, the pitch is poor and there will be too much tension for much decent football to be seen.…[Read more]

So Accrington Stanley stand between the Dons and a place in the Wembley play-off final. It will be a daunting task over two legs, but there are a couple of things that offer hope. The Dons won at Accy 4-3 last October and had a scoreless draw at home: so they are unbeaten against them this season! Accy will be feeling down after missing out on an…[Read more]

The Dons clinched their play-off spot with a game left on the back of a late Plymouth Argyle equaliser to kill off Cambridge’s remote mathematical bid to overhaul Wimbledon in 7th place. So now we have next weekend’s final regular season home game against Newport County to tune up for a home two-leg semi-final against either Accrington Stanley,…[Read more]

I thought that yesterday would be a test, but despite the 1-0 score line it was another comfortable performance. We should have been 2 or 3 up at half time, and despite some huffing and puffing in the second half Orient offered little in the way of goal threat. Once again Robbo and Darius were imperious in the heart of defence and 3 goals…[Read more]

Another narrow win making it 5 wins in a row and a third consecutive clean sheet. This is definitely a change from previous campaigns. A degree of consistency especially since Xmas. Praise must go to the manager who seems to have made progress himself this season. This is surely a pointer to other clubs who rarely give managers time to prove…[Read more]

There definitely seemed to be a change of feeling on Tuesday, both on the pitch and in the crowd. It was confidence, a feeling that we WOULD make the playoffs, rather than COULD make them and the travelling army numbering just shy of 1000 seemed to feel it (once Bas had cleared of the line, of course!)
The Daggers played some pretty football,…[Read more]

Yes, it does indeed appear that the Dons are most likely heading into the play-offs. Not many expected that at the start of the season. It is a great time for the team to have momentum, especially if it carries over into the play-offs. I think we are all pleasantly surprised and can enter the play-offs with no undue expectations, except to have…[Read more]

Unfortunately due to a family emergency I didn’t get to make it to Dagenham. I was gutted. I did make it back home by 7:30pm and tuned in to the excellent Radio WDON, whilst trying to catch up with some work. After the first 10 minutes when we could have been 3-0 up, the work was forgotten.
Rob, your analysis is spot on. I was thinking back to…[Read more]

Four wins on the trot, 68 points, four points clear of the eighth-placed team, four games left with a game in hand and facing Portsmouth at home next week… it’s all for the Dons to lose to NOT make the playoffs IMHO. Momentum is a wonderful thing. Once you’ve got it you surf the wave right to the shore. A check back over the last 11 seasons of…[Read more]

The dream is still very much alive. Akinfenwa may not have been able to work his magic, but Robinson surely did. He was immense all game, as was Darius Charles, Captain Fuller and Master Meades. Bulman had the run of the centre of the park against his old club, and the joker Lyle Taylor ran himself into the ground up front. He even found time to…[Read more]

I’ve kind of made my opinion/s known about whether we are good enough for League One or not, but I haven’t commented on Trevor’s political comment. So, forgive me if I diverge from the forum’s objective and wade into this (just once, Rob!)
As one who spent twelve years in politics, albeit as an Independent (but, ironically, as one who also served…[Read more]
