Most annoying thing was going ahead but not holding out for at least a point. I listened in intermittently and got the impression that we did not offer much after going behind. And the statistic of 2 goals from 2 shots on target was reminiscent of last week v Walsall. I suppose we have to accept we are a good L2 team playing in L1, so need to…[Read more]

Singapore Don writes – Well, that was ultimately frustrating – again. We played so well for the first 25 minutes, and had a number of decent chances before Barcham’s goal (was it offside?!). Dean Parrett had a fantastic effort moments earlier, a pile driver of a shot after the neatest of turns – a fierce shot which their keeper did incredibly…[Read more]

Not the start we wanted, but both games have been away. Hopefully with the crowd behind them, the Dons can get something out of this game. Like Dave, I would be happy with a point to kick start the season.

I’m going for a 1-1 against Bolton.
I think that we will well and truly match them up front but until AFC settles their problems at the back, I can’t see us being able to hold out a full 90 minutes to secure the three points.

Having been at the Walsall game and having watched the highlights of Posh, I find it disappointing that already Ryan Clarke is being singled out as a fall guy for our performances. He certainly hasn’t obviously cost us a goal out of the 6 conceded. I feel that the entire defensive unit have reverted to the beginning of last season – the second…[Read more]

Well.. armchair critic I am these days but while it has to be said that for much of the (EFL Peterboro’) game I was ready to eat some humble pie, I was saved by the same issues that plagued our first game… namely a defence that has either forgotten how to work together in the way it did last year, (or, I think more likely, needs a stronger ‘Roos…[Read more]

Let’s be positive lads and I predict a 2-1 victory for AFC with Tyrone Bennett on the score sheet against his old club.

I don’t wish to be negative but I am not expecting much from tonight’s game. Our draw in this competition always seems to be very tough and invariably away from home against a team from a higher division. I went to one such game a few years ago, away at Stevenage, and it was an awful experience. The Dons got thumped and the ground was shit, so…[Read more]

Wimbledon off to Posh tonight and do not have a great record in the League Cup: lost 1st Rd Cardiff City, lost 1st Rd MK Dons, lost 1st Rd Millwall, lost 1st Rd Stevenage, lost 1st Rd Crawley Town over last five seasons in the League. Hardly inspiring, but here’s one to hang your coat on: Posh have what they see as a Tuesday night curse: In 12…[Read more]

Well I guess it’s easy to be an armchair critic and at the danger of being labelled one… Yesterday did feel a bit like after the Lord Mayor’s Show.
Our back four seemed a bit ring rusty or perhaps a bit lost without Roos behind them.
Bulman’s name was referenced all over the park as usual, while, (as usual) Barcham did a lot of ineffective…[Read more] -

One of the silver linings of being winter time in Oz is the earlier kick off time. 11.30pm for me in Adelaide. So I listened in to radio WDON. Story of the first half was very straightforward – conceding early, missing two chances and getting punished for bad defending. Dozed off in the second half so only saw the final score.
I suppose it…[Read more] -

Yes, as you say; “a good early test”, and a test that we flunked a bit. I’m sure that a win away would be seen as very good at this stage of the season, but it just goes to show how life in our new part of the cabbage patch is going to be tough beyond belief. Our demonic, evil and mis-shapen half-cousin went to Shrewsbury and showed how it is…[Read more]

Well, it’s 8.45am here in upstate South Carolina, an hour and fifteen minutes away from the start of my long awaited seasonal fix of AFCW.
I look forward to seeing an active forum again too, and promise to chide NA occasionally, if only to incite the more learned among you.
When I picked Walsall as my League One champions for the WDSA pundits…[Read more] -

Good to have the forum back! One point before I ramble on about today’s match is that I felt the Forum worked better when readers could go directly to the Matchday thread. As has been mentioned by others Rob’s summary (as above) seemed to act as a starting point for comment and discussion on each forthcoming match. A suggestion may be to…[Read more]

So we set out in AFC Wimbledon’s debut season in League 1 against Walsall. A good early test for the Dons this one. Although the Saddlers have made a number of changes, they did finish one point off automatic promotion last season, so anything at the Bescot Stadium would a great start. It’s important we don’t read too much into the early results…[Read more]

Thanks for the info, Rob. Potentially Barnett is a great signing for us, but NA will need to weave his magic in rehabilitating another player who seems to have lost his mojo in recent seasons.
From his Crawley days, where he formed a formidable partnership with Matt Tubbs (remember him?) and prompted the £1m+ bid from Posh, he has had a steady…[Read more]

Expecting Tyrone Barnett to be unveiled on Wednesday as the club’s sixth signing of the summer. Barnett’s contract was paid out by his former club Shrewsbury Town on Monday and has been signed by the Dons. Barnett is 30, 6ft 3in and has made around 218 League appearances for 56 goals. He has League 1 experience with Peterborough ( who paid Crawley…[Read more]

So the squad is now complete, with a few days to spare before we step into the unknown of League 1. To me the squad definitely looks stronger than last season, with the exception of Clarke for Roos (who was always beyond our budget) and possibly Kelly for Kennedy (who was only backup anyway). The others all improve the squad, but of course it…[Read more]

I think many of us share Liamwimbo’s thoughts; league one has the potential to be anything from a nightmare to an entirely satisfactory experience. The friendlies have not really provided any clues towards defining our potential performance either.
From the way NA is still tinkering with his beloved diamond formation, the acknowledged fact that…[Read more] - Load More
