According to Erik, it looks like we’ll have to ensure we smoke any illicit substances before entering KM on Tuesday!

The Cobblers game was a tale of two stonewall penalties. Unfortunately one wasn’t given. The referee had a bad day really. All the more surprising when you consider he had bugger all to do for 90 minutes. Both teams tried to get the ball down and play football. There weren’t many chances, but it was a fun game to watch. Northampton defended in…[Read more]

i’m not sure if MacWomble’s comment was penned before or after the resigning on Messrs Robinson, Barcham, and Nightingale.
I noticed last season how Neil Ardley had signed up players around this time of year, and he’s done it again. It’s an astute move. Not only does it make for an easier summer for him, it gives those key players the impetus to…[Read more]

I just saw a league table that places our Gaffer as the 5th longest serving manager in the four top leagues in England. This surprised me. No job security in that business. He hasn’t done too badly overall, especially in comparison to many of the sad-sack managers of other teams. In our thinking of what the Gaffer needs to do next season to build…[Read more]

7 from 9? Given the turnaround in fortunes and my general cynicism, I’d have to think NA’s grovelling thanks to the Board were for the rumoured re-instatement of a Sports Psychologist. Nevertheless, whatever they stumped up for (again), has clearly had a positive impact.
To add even more cynicism one would have to wonder if the enforced discovery…[Read more] -

Are we MK in disguise? Both won 11, though we are slightly more likely to draw than lose. Both scoring about the same for, both conceding exactly the same against. Both next to each other on the table. Honestly, if we are going to be so similar, then let’s just merge and get it all over with. I have this feeling that the (long lost art of)…[Read more]

Thanks again Peter for another very descriptive report on the Bolton match. Seven points from the last nine (Walsall, Scunthorpe and Bolton) and Wimbledon are well poised to secure their place in next season’s League 1. If the Dons can get a home win over Northampton Town on Saturday (and that is eminently achievable), wouldn’t it be ironic that…[Read more]

Well, well, well, who would have thought it? A point away at high flying Bolton to add to the amazing 3 points at Scunthorpe and 3 at KM against Walsall. If you’d asked me a week ago, I would have predicted one or two points max from those three games. But the results, and performances, show we have turned a difficult corner. We have demonstrated…[Read more]

Very pleased you had such a good night out, Dave. Certainly a result to rave about – and one to put the Ardley critics back in their place.
Just about to fly to KL where I have a stopover.
Will contact you next week once I’m in the UK.“I’m coming for you, you Franchise bastards, I’m coming for you”!

Tuesday night in Scunthorpe, no better place to be. It was raining of course when I went to the ground and walked straight into Erik and Eileen Samuelson and Liam’s friend from the club shop (who told me about the time he had drinks with Liam after the Manchester final). They had caught a cab over from Doncaster and were going to have to make a…[Read more]

First game I’ve missed in 2017 and sounds like it was the best one so far! Sod’s law. The 3-5-2 was a masterstroke, and with Will Nightingale back it’s working a treat. That is a tall, solid back line that doesn’t need to worry about pushing up: that can be done by the five man midfield. Dare I say it, (and not for pasting on to Twitter Rob!), but…[Read more]

What a great result against Scunthorpe, and a tactical master stoke by Neil Ardley. Playing a back three, with the timely arrival back to Will Nightingale, we restricted them to very few chances. Up front we seem to have recovered our mojo, and can’t stop scoring. Long may it continue.

The scoreline didn’t really do us justice. We could, perhaps should, have won by more. Tom Elliott had two good chances, and both our central midfielders had good strikes well saved.
Reeves may have won man of the match, but it could easily have gone to any one of the front three. Barcham in particular had their right back in his pocket all…[Read more]

Did anyone ever really believe we were heading towards the relegation dogfight? There has been no indication that our mid-table mediocrity was going in that trajectory. Anyone would think that the journalists barred from Spicer’s briefings were suddenly bored enough to cross the Pond and hype up stories of Wimbledon doom and gloom. The 50-51…[Read more]

Great match report as usual, Pete, so I echo Robert’s thanks. Despite the loss at Shrewsbury, I got the impression that the Dons had turned a corner, performance-wise, in the previous two games so I was quietly confident of three points yesterday. The return of Charles and Barcham seems to have been crucial. I listened in to the second half on…[Read more]

Thanks again for the detailed match wrap, it is indeed much appreciated, Peter.
So the Dons have 43 points, the safety level in 12 L1 seasons is between 50-51 points, so by that reckoning Wimbledon need a minimum eight points, nine points to be sure, from the 13 remaining games.
There are some tough ones coming up. We are at second-placed…[Read more] -

So four points from Gillingham and Walsall, and I think we can breathe a collective sigh of relief that our League One safety now looks a lot more likely. I didn’t post a write-up after the Gills game given the late return and demands of work – but we were well worth our point there, and indeed could have taken all three. It was great to see Lyle…[Read more]

A point against Gillingham is the very least I’d have expected. Had we lost that game, the pressure REALLY would ramp up. We’ve got 40 points, so only 10 more and we’ll be at that magical figure. The positives to take from last night were our front men both scoring, the arrival in the squad of both Parrett and Nightingale, and the fact we didn’t…[Read more]

Very kind words by Peter in his article on our Hull game and we were good that night. Unfortunately we let ourselves down at Preston. We should be playing a quarter Final against Stoke right now and giving the fans…[Read more] -

After two injury time equalisers, we can’t really complain too hard about losing at the death. At least we broke our away day goal duck. With Gillingham away on Tuesday, hopefully that will instill some confidence into the lads. We need three points on Tuesday like never before. If we succeed we could be comfortably mid table on 42 points. Lose…[Read more]
