And so on to Saturday and the visit of basement dwellers Plymouth. Despite propping up the table, I am sure that tomorrow will be a game just as tough as Northampton and Rotherham were. The Pilgrims will be desperate to pick up something, despite having a long injury list at the moment – they are even likely to have an emergency loan keeper…[Read more]

There would have been some sore bodies amongst the team this morning after an evening of tremendous effort and commitment. Rotherham were all we had expected – hard, fit, physical and when necessary, cynical. Anything less than 100% commitment and we would have lost. Fortunately we were given the sort of performance that we have been crying out…[Read more]

What a great night it was, and what a wonderful game of football. Of course Lyle will get the plaudits, but as was revealed at the post match MOTM award, at 91 minutes it was going to Harry Forrester. Then up steps Lyle again to get us looking for the record books. When was the last time a Dons player scored a hatrick? My guess was Jon Main…[Read more]

Wonderful news to wake up to on a Wednesday morning. And the table shows what winning two in a row can do at this stage of the season. Obviously the change in tactics that many people had been crying out for worked. But also having Darius Charles back and Forrester hitting form has helped as well. Well done to LTB for becoming the first AFCW…[Read more]

So… I come home to find we’ve won 3-1 and in convincing style…. As much as I want to believe the team formation and strategy was all NA, I beg to believe he’s been reading the recommendations of others. e.g. LTB FINALLY gets to play in his best role…
Let’s see what he’s learned on Saturday, which, on this form, really should be another three points.

  • Windlesham Don replied to the topic The Lounge in the forum WDSA Forum 8 years, 6 months ago

Saturday was all about the win and the 3 points, and on that criteria it was ‘job done’. However, there was little to get excited about in the change of formation or the style of play.

Many of us had been calling for a change of formation to 4-2-3-1, and remarkably that is exactly how NA put the team out on Saturday. McDonald was dropped to the…[Read more]

I reckon that was a very early 6-pointer and very happy the Dons got the job done. Is it possible that fan pressure got Ardley to play Forrester from the start with LTB up front (if that is what happened).
The big question is whether the players can keep it going from here in the next couple of games. 4 (or 6) points would be welcome and probably…[Read more]

One word. Phew! I don’t want Ardley to leave either, but fear that results must go in our favour for this not to happen. Don’t read too much into this game though. We scored on goal, not two or three, and could have easily drawn or lost the game. Northampton are an awful team, who like us are struggling. 1-0 doesn’t seem like a great result, but…[Read more]

Glad you saw that Cobblers bogey beaten WD. Phew. Thanks to that single goal, Neal lives to fight another day. Pleased for him. But not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination. Four points from next two games needed.

Yep, I’ll be there on Tuesday! If you want text updates today then text me and I’ll send them through. Frustratingly, I will have to leave before the end as I am out at a function this evening, so I am hoping that everything isn’t riding on the last 5 minutes!!

  • Singapore Don replied to the topic The Lounge in the forum WDSA Forum 8 years, 6 months ago

Frustratingly WD I can’t make it today. I’m at a long-standing function where I won’t even be able to listen to the WDON commentary; I’ll try to follow the game with sneaked glances at Twitter updates! I am going Tuesday evening. It would be great to catch up pre match then? Really hope we’ll be able to toast a return to the good, goal scoring…[Read more]

Are you going along today, Pete? If so, do you fancy meeting up for a pre-match beer and chat?
Give me a call on oh771oh 142oh74 if you are going.

    Regards,

Today’s game has more resting on it than any I can remember for a long while. It’s a crunch day. A defeat, and I fear Neal Ardley’s time with us could be over. The Board may give him the Rotherham and Plymouth games for one last chance week – but I fear he’ll finally have lost the majority of the fan base if he doesn’t deliver today. We need…[Read more]

I must also apologise for not posting recently. The games I saw back in August were hardly inspiring and have been travelling and settling back into work the last month. Would have been good to have some good results to the Dons to talk about, but that has not been the case unfortunately.
As others have said, the next few games are crucial given…[Read more]

sorry for the inactivity, had personal issues but im back and to be honest I said ill give ardley three more games before oxford but now seeing our next three games if we don’t get atleast 6 points at the very least- then I will be jumping on the ardley out bandwagon and me personally not beating Northampton or Plymouth deserve booing from our…[Read more]

When we hit these sticky patches I always feel it is worthwhile to take a step back and try to look at the long term view. It is easy to get caught up in the depression of a poor run of results, but in the history of AFC Wimbledon half a season of poor form will count for little. If we choose to sack our manager, of course, then that will be a…[Read more]

Unlike Neal Ardley’s first season, the talk is no longer about whether he can keep us up, but whether he’ll get the chance.

  • Colum replied to the topic The Lounge in the forum WDSA Forum 8 years, 6 months ago

Yep. 100% agree with recent comments. The graffiti is on the wall, but the paint isn’t yet dry. For the first time NA’s post match summary showed a manager with no answers to the problems. He looked a forlorn figure. He talks about the players being low of confidence, but he should take a long hard look in the mirror as well. I feel sorry for him.…[Read more]

The dispiriting 3-0 loss at Oxford sapped a lot of confidence in Neal Ardley to hold on to his job. Sure, it is not yet (yet) time to remove the gaffer, but the clock is now well and truly ticking on what will be a wrenching decision for the Dons Trust and Club Executive. Neal likes to point to stats but the real stats are becoming painfully…[Read more]

The game at Oxford can be summed up by 2 things. Darius Charles playing striker and Neal Ardley sitting glumly on the bench. A centre half at centre forward sums up our woes and is not the answer. Sadly he was no better than Macdonald who was equally ineffective. At Blackburn Ardley’s management helped win the game. Yesterday his lack of…[Read more]
