So 1-1 in the Ashes then…
    😉

The fanatics at WDSA HQ (i.e. Oz) may be buoyed this weekend after an evening’s bonanza of England wickets. Anything is possible we realise. Even an Ashes win after 3 tests. And look at the commentary box and grounds – stuffed full of old captains – Hussain, Atherton, Vaughan, Strauss, Gower – who don’t seem to have found day jobs like the rest of…[Read more]

I’ll be at Sunlun tomorrow. The weather is nice this Bank Holiday weekend however there is industrial action on the trains on Sunday, so if no-one has heard from me for a week or so, put the search party out for me. I might be stuck in Mackem Land talking some strange dialect that sounds like I’ve got a mouthful of fish.

As for the game itself,…[Read more]

We are indeed desperate for the return of both Will and Woody, but their absence has demonstrated the paper thin nature of our squad. I’m still hopeful that we could pick up a cheap loanee before the window closes, but we are short in midfield as well as up front.

Several recent signings have simply not stepped up to the plate, with Connolly, M…[Read more]

Still win-less after four league games and it gets no easier with a long trip to promotion hopefuls Sunderland. There has been much lamenting about the 95th-minute goal that sunk the Dons at Ipswich Town in mid-week after leading 1-0 with nine minutes of regulation time left. The Dons are having trouble protecting leads so far this season –…[Read more]

Still feeling gutted after the defeat on Tuesday night. Over the 90 minutes, we probably didn’t deserve to win but we certainly deserved a point. Even an Ipswich fan told me we were unlucky after the game.
For the first 60 minutes, we out-fought the opposition and kept them to only one chance. They dominated the last 30 minutes so the equaliser…[Read more]

The morning after the night before, and it feels no better. That 95th minute defeat at Ipswich really was a kick in the proverbial, after what had been 80 minutes of probably our best football this season. We controlled the first half, playing some really decent football, passing it quickly and sharply, small triangle passages of play, closing…[Read more]

It looks increasingly like Bury and possibly Bolton will not complete the season. It would be great news for us, only needing to find two teams worse than us – there are a few candidates. Bury look doomed and Bolton’s unilateral postponement of tonight’s match doesn’t bode well for them – it must result in another three point penalty surel…[Read more]

I can’t argue a lot with what others have said, except that Foliva should have fot MOTM. His tireless running and harassing caused Accy untold problems. It even called from some pretty industrial defending from their No.5. How Folivi didn’t win a single free kick in 90 minutes is astounding.

Elsewhere the positives were that we took the lead, had…[Read more]

Three games played and only one point on the board. I’ve been to both home games and it’s hard to find many positives. We could have nicked a point against Rotherham but poor defending late on let us down.
Against Accrington Stanley, a draw was a fair result. The most disappointing aspect of that game was looking second best against ten men for…[Read more]

Browsing the infernal net last night, I see that Me Bang-yin Goaks is available from North Korea for seven pot noodles a week and a full length picture of his leader.
Meanwhile, Baolo Innetto says he is fed up with playing in the Campari and Soda Sunday Liga Sardinia and has ambitions to move to England. Not sure if we can afford the Fiat 500 he…[Read more]

These are bleak times on the pitch. Up against a poor Accrington side who are liable to be battling the drop come April, we couldn’t even hold on to a lead against 10 men.

What concerns me at the moment is a complete lack of ideas or tactical ability. WaG may not have any budget, but they are seasoned coaches at a good level and should be able…[Read more]

Very happy to have enjoyed a great day of Ashes test cricket at Lords rather than have endured yet another serving of frustration at KM. I’d forgotten what it was like to have fun at a sporting event! Hard to see it happening any time soon for us Dons fans 🙁

The team is not firing yet, and the delights of Ipswich and Sunderland won’t help matters. Looks like the team is settling down for a repeat of the last few seasons. I dunno, but from a distance, I get the feeling the league is tougher this year. I was looking at the tables around the country and had not picked up that Bolton, as well as Bury, had…[Read more]

OK… So let me see if I’ve got this straight…
    We play a relegation candidate.
    We have home advantage.
    We command for 45 minutes.
At 61 minutes we gain the advantage of a sending off.
    THREE minutes later they equalise.
At 85 minutes we have our backs to the wall.
Oh Woe, Oh Woe, Oh Woe is me.
Don’t leave it till February to wake up guys, because…[Read more]

There is definitely an air of depression hanging over the club at the moment. After the euphoria of the end of last season there was some hope that WaG would build on the spirit and teamwork during the summer and produce a side capable of a mid-table finish.

Sadly that has not materialised. The budget situation seems to have been worse than any…[Read more]

A win-less start to the season, a bit of disconcertion about, (premature after two games) concerns of another relegation dogfight. The Dons need a win to lift spirits but the visit of Accrington Stanley may not be opportune. We have a scratchy record against Accy (much like us, few fans, not much money, dogged, grounded expectations) and we’ve won…[Read more]

In the end I decided I would go to support my team and endure the awfulness of having to watch an opposition which should not exist and which makes me sick to the core. The unspeakables in the away stand were quite simply unbearable. I will never set foot in the thieves’ place up north, but I will support my team at home whatever the horror show…[Read more]

I couldn’t be arsed to travel after work to Kingsmeadow for a largely meaningless game. I did occasionally dip into twitter feeds to see what was happening, and stopped once the general emotion was one of “I wish I’d stayed at home.”

We’ve yet to get past round one of this mickey mouse cup since we rejoined the league. I can understand why Wally…[Read more]
