Well that was a entertaining game. We weren’t great in this EFL Trophy game, and were let off the hook by Orient’s woeful finishing. 3-0 rather flattered us. Delaney was good in defence, but Kalambayi had an off day. Reilly poor first half, but very good second half and well taken goal. Osew and Wags again strong down the wings. Sanders exc…[Read more]

I’m somewhat late to the post match analysis, but can’t disagree with what others have said. In the first half Rochdale was as shocking as their pink away strip. Both our wing backs (including Wagstaff on the right) ran them ragged. Pigott gave their right back a torrid time and we somehow ended up three goals to the good. Were we dreaming?
We…[Read more]

Relief to finally get a league win at the 12th attempt. But what does this mean for Wally Downes? As we wait on the FA verdict on his betting charges and AFC Wimbledon’s response, the efforts of caretaker manager Glyn Hodges won’t go unnoticed. It’s no secret that there is considerable antipathy towards Wally on both the Dons Trust and Football…[Read more]

Yes, it was great to get the first win and in the first half we played really well.
My take is that the team were set up to attack and attack they did with the first goal coming after a few minutes. I thought Sanders was excellent as well and I hope he will be a real asset for us this season.
Thought we were the better team and their second…[Read more]

First half elation, second half deflation, final whistle relief. In the end, a big “phew” win.
A new air of optimism preceded this must win fixture, with a team sheet that had real promise and reflected what so many in the stands had been calling for in recent weeks. A midfield with Wordsworth and Sanders at its heart, together with Wagstaff and…[Read more]

Back from the beauty of Santorini to the grim reality of Rochdale at home…
In a long hard season I t’s hard to believe that any games in October could be considered “must win”, but Rochdale followed by a trip to fellow bottom feeders Southend are two matches which could be just that.
The good news for today is that Forss returns from suspe…[Read more]

I’ve been banging on about the importance of Anthony Wordsworth to the team and hopefully sparking a revival (of sorts)… just have a look at these stats ..
Hopefully Anthony Wordsworth has enough minutes under his belt to start league games from now on, as the stats show below, he is absolutely vital. #afcw #afcwimbledon pic.twitter.com/oPVvzP2kNm

Seeing us go 2-0 down wasn’t a surprise, but seeing us get back in the game, not once but twice, was. The key was the more experienced heads of Pinnock and Wordsworth. Both came on, and both scored goals. Their willingness to have a go and actually shoot from outside the box is what made the difference. It was just a shame that the same old…[Read more]

Another Saturday, another defeat for the Dons. And, yet again, a loss by only one goal. And another game where we played well for half a game.
As for Wallygate, I think it might be a blessing in disguise. Hard to see Wally Downes coming back, so I think we will see GH in charge for the rest of the season.

Thought provoking.
My take on this comes from listening to Glyn talk about the Peterborough game. He mentions “Tweaking” a few things, and about how he wants the team to “get comfortable” on the ball rather than treating it like a hot potato.
These are not the words of someone looking for a short term ‘caretaking’ job, IMHO, these are the words of…[Read more] -

As if this season couldn’t get any worse. News this week that Wally Downes has been suspended from his managerial duties by the club after he was charged by the FA for misconduct in respect of eight bets placed on football matches between 30 November 2013 and 12 July 2019. His assistant Glyn Hodges has been put in charge of the team while the club…[Read more]

No sooner had I written of no prospect of anything changing, and the club announces that Wally Downes has been suspended after being charged by the FA for betting misconduct. Perhaps Glyn Hodges can now turn around our fortunes! Peterborough has a new interest….

Fortunately I had a couple of weeks off the misery of following the Dons, with a wonderful holiday in Zambia – only to return to see us beaten 1-3 at home by Bristol Rovers. It was a strange experience.
Forss’ goal was superb, but I felt little euphoria, expecting the inevitable reversal to come. At the final whistle, I just felt numb, and I…[Read more]

Funny old game this football. Just when you think you are down, then lo and behold, a miracle. So, I’m going to put my $5 on a win at Peterborough and at home to Rochdale, in the firm expectation that one or both will eventuate. The omens are right: the surprise wins coming just before we get to the Wally-out stage. Fingers crossed.

Hello League Two! After yesterday’s display there can be few Dons fans foolish enough to think we can perform the great escape again. It was a horror show. Yes the ref was an officious twat, but we gave him the opportunity to be one.
Here’s what I gleaned from yesterday’s display:
Hartigan is out of his league, quite literally. Yesterday he was…[Read more]

Bang! That’s the sound of us shooting ourselves in the foot, as Forss got himself a second yellow with a brainless challenge after picking up a first for ‘excessive celebration’.
Wally had just brought on Pigott to go for the win with three up top and we were just gaining some momentum, so Forss’s actions should incur the wrath of both manager…[Read more] -

Nine games in and still no league win for the Dons. They’ve played five of the top 10 teams and some say now we’re playing some of the *easy* teams. How I cringe when I hear that. Next up opponents Bristol Rovers are currently 12th, have lost three games and have an 8-3-3 record over Wimbledon. Let’s be frank here: there are NO easy games for the…[Read more]

At the risk of being an armchair critic, I watched the Coventry v Dons match on ifollow (which as usual, broke down for several minutes).
Of the game, the result doesn’t surprise me one bit. We don’t play 3-5-2, we play 8-0-2. We are dreadful at free kicks, and even throw-ins from the critical final third are poor. Vis-a-vis Reilly and O’Neill. SO…[Read more] -
